A student-led community built around rigorous analysis, diverse perspectives, and a shared passion for global markets.
The Global Investments Committee provides University of Michigan students with hands-on experience in equity research, portfolio management, and financial analysis across global markets. Leveraging the diversity of its membership base and the resources of the Ross School of Business, GIC offers an unparalleled hands-on education and large alumni network for its members.
Founded in 2005, today’s GIC reflects the combined legacy of four longstanding University of Michigan finance organizations: the Michigan Commodities Group, Real Portfolio Management, Hail Capital Management, and the former Global Investments Committee. Their consolidation brought distinct investment disciplines and perspectives into a single organization, establishing the multi-asset foundation that continues to define GIC today.
GIC is shaped as much by its people as by its investment process. Members are expected to contribute, challenge one another, and take ownership of the organization. That shared responsibility has created a culture that is intellectually curious, collaborative, and intentionally close-knit. The relationships formed within GIC often extend well beyond a member’s time at Michigan, connecting generations of students through a shared experience and continued involvement in the organization.
